Dunst, Steven

2004 Alan Malamud Memorial Scholarship Recipient
When Los Angeles Times sportswriter and Hall of Fame inductee Alan Malamud passed away several years ago, many of his friends, led by Hall of Fame sportswriter Mitch Chortkoff, established the Alan Malamud Award, a scholarship to be presented periodically to a high school or university student planning a career in print or broadcast journalism.

High school senior Steven Dunst was the 2004 recipient of the Malamud Award. At the time of his Award, Steven was completing his term as Executive Editor of the Harvard-Westlake high school newspaper. Steven took his journalist dreams to the next level in the Fall of 2004, enrolling as a journalism major at the University of California-Berkeley.

Early in 2004, Steven was presented the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Award “for excellence in sports writing”.
