Keefer, Mel

One of the premier comic strip and comic book illustrators of the post WWII era, Mel Keefer created “Mac Divot” for the Chicago Tribune Syndicate, who published the popular golf panel from 1955 to 1975.

For 20 years, “Mac Divot “ was the daily golf comic strip series that entertained and taught readers of 150 U.S. and international newspapers how to improve their game via original drawings of pro golfers and celebrity hackers in humor-laced teaching situations.

The Los Angeles High School alum drew many newspaper comic strips: Dragnet, Gene Autry, Perry Mason, Zorro, Tales of the Texas Rangers, Thorn McBride, Uncle Martin the Martian, Rick O’ Shay, The Swamp Fox, et als, for the New York News Syndicate, Copley Syndicate, Times-Mirror Syndicate, Dell Publications, Petersen Publications, Ziff-Davis Comics, DC Comics, and the Chicago Tribune.

Keefer enjoyed a successful career as a motion picture and television animator on such productions as: “Jetsons: The Movie”, “Jonny Quest”, “Challenge of the GoBots”, “The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show”, “The Dukes”, “Spider-Woman”, “The Batman/Superman Hour”, “The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley”, and numerous others.
