Marshall, Sol H.

Maccabee Award - 1990

The word “involved” is a well-earned synonym for “Sol Marshall” when it comes to service to the Los Angeles Jewish community. In the area of sports, Sol has been involved with the World Maccabiah Games since 1957.

His group was responsible for sending the first large contingents of Southern Californians to the World Maccabiah Games. In 1961, 1965 and 1969, Sol served double duty as manager of the U.S. Maccabiah volleyball teams. He was the key man behind the highly successful Westside Center volleyball program 1965-1972. The Center won National championships and dominated state and local competitions.

Sol was national public relations chairman for the USVBA 1967-72, and a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Men's Volleyball Committee 1968-72. In 1980, he helped launch the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in Israel.
A public relations consultant mostly for community organizations and the publishing field, he is also a publisher, focusing on subjects of Jewish interest.
