Gottlieb, Bob

Basketball - 2018

Robert Henry "Bob" Gottlieb was the father of Orange County club basketball, which led to many youth players receiving college basketball scholarships through his Branch West Club. Gottlieb coached basketball for 48 years at all levels of the game, including five years of high school basketball, 15 years at the college level, and 28 years as an AAU/Club coach. He also coached in the NBA Pro Summer League for six seasons, winning two Coach of the Year Awards in that time.

Gottlieb coached NCAA Division I at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Jacksonville University, finishing with close to 100 career NCAA Division I victories. Gottlieb was also an assistant coach under legends Jack Hartman at Kansas State, Eddie Sutton at Creighton, and Ralph Miller at Oregon State. His club team, Branch West, beat most colleges it played in three years of exhibition games, including handing UCLA a 92-67 loss in Pauley Pavilion in 2002. Bob Gottlieb passed away on November 23, 2014 at the age of 74.
