Siegel, Jeff

Horse Racing - 2018

Horse owner, breeder, and HRTV analyst, Jeff Siegel is recognized as Southern California' s premier handicapper, picking winners since 1978. Siegel has been a syndicated handicapper for six L.A. area newspapers including the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune, a co-owner with Bob Selvin of Handicapper's Report, and a co-owner of National Turf. After graduating from San Jose State in Journalism, Siegel was hired as a radio news and sports reporter by KLAC, where he worked for the legendary reporter Jim Healy before going into racing full-time.

Siegel purchased his first horse in 1975, one of the best being the 1988 California-bred champion 3-year-old Aloha Prospector. It was also through his recommendation that Wishing Well – dam of Sunday Silence – was claimed for $32,000 before winning major stakes and nearly a half million dollars for trainer Gary Jones. Soon after, Siegel, along with Barry Irwin, co-founded Clover Racing Stable and then Team Valor, whose syndicated runners have won more than 75 stakes races, earned more than $30 million, and captured some of the world' s most prestigious races – including the Breeders' Cup Turf, Arlington Million, Santa Anita Handicap, Santa Anita Derby, Molson Million, and Dubai World Cup Day.
